The Magnificat ("My soul doth magnify the Lord") is one of the biblical canticles, taken from the gospel of St. Luke. It is used in the Divine Office at Vespers, with appropriate antiphons, and also formed an important element in early Protestant evening services. After the Ordinary of the Mass, it is the most frequently set of all liturgical texts. This CD features eight different versions, including three by Mozart, with two other liturgical works.
