Riley Lee was the first non-Japanese shaku-hachi flute performer to be recognized as a dai shihan (grand master) of the shakuhachi tradition. His fluid sound and warm tone are the results of years of study in Japan. Inspired by the story of Buddha's enlightenment, this disc is filled with expressive and moving shakuhachi flute solos that bridge the culture gap, infusing the quiet dignity of Japanese music with the freedom of contemporary instrumental music.
